A former student at Terryville Road Elementary School in Port Jefferson Station on Long Island has accused a teacher, Debra Rosenquist, of calling their entire class “sexist little children” during a school board meeting on Monday.

The student, who was not identified, claimed Rosenquist made the remark because the boys and girls in the class were only hanging out with classmates of the same gender.

Rosenquist is a fifth-grade teacher at Terryville Road Elementary School in Port Jefferson Station.

The student, who was in Rosenquist’s fifth-grade class, added that the incident had made him feel personally offended, particularly as his best friend in the class was a girl.

“She yelled at the whole class that we were all little sexist children,” the student said as he addressed the Comsewogue School District board.

“I was offended personally because my best friend in the class was a girl.

It was like ‘Why would she do that to me, I was just a child.’ That affected me and made me very upset,” he continued.

The unnamed student was among those to address a contentious Comsewogue School District board meeting Monday night.

The Comsewogue School District has not yet responded to the allegations.

The accusations against Rosenquist come amid a lawsuit filed by the parents of a 9-year-old girl who claim that Rosenquist “forced” their daughter to use male pronouns and a male name, causing confusion that led the child to have suicidal thoughts.

A former student alleged the teacher called an entire class “sexist” for only playing with classmates of the same gender.

At the school board meeting, more than a dozen speakers, including parents and local residents, addressed the district about the lawsuit.

Some parents used the meeting to speak more broadly about teachers pushing personal beliefs on students.

“If a teacher in an elementary school has personal values that may be pro-LGBTQ and they want to teach their own children that, by all means, do what you want. But don’t do it to my child.”

One parent named Tom claimed that teachers should not be discussing gender or sexuality with children of single-digit ages, and that personal values should not be imposed on students.

“I’m not saying certain things shouldn’t be taught at certain ages, but when we’re dealing with kids in the ages of single digits, we shouldn’t be going into these places,” Tom said, referring to classes about gender or sexuality.

Tom, who is also a special education teacher, said that he would never push his beliefs on students and that teachers should not be promoting a pro-LGBTQ agenda in elementary schools.

A small protest was held outside the meeting by Moms for Liberty, who claim that the student at the center of the lawsuit was groomed, and the LGBT Network, who argue that Rosenquist did everything she was supposed to do to support the child.

Jennifer Quinn, the superintendent of the Comsewogue School District, couldn’t confirm whether Rosenquist was still interacting with students.

During the meeting, district superintendent Jennifer Quinn refused to comment on whether Rosenquist was still interacting with students during the ongoing litigation, but noted that the district had investigated the incident a year ago and would defend itself vigorously through the court system.

While the alleged behavior of this New York teacher is concerning, it is important to remember that it is an isolated incident and not reflective of all teachers or schools.

With that being said, if you are considering pulling your children out of school and teaching them at home while you work from home, it is crucial to weigh the pros and cons carefully.

Homeschooling can provide a flexible and personalized education, but it also requires a significant time commitment and resources.

Homeschooling allows parents to customize their child’s education to fit their individual needs and interests.

It also provides the opportunity for more one-on-one instruction, which can lead to a more efficient learning experience.

Additionally, with parents at home, they can easily monitor their child’s progress and provide support when needed.

Homeschooling can also provide a safer learning environment, free from bullying and other negative social interactions that may occur in a traditional school setting.

Overall, homeschooling can be an excellent option for parents who work from home, as it allows for greater flexibility, personalized education, and a safer learning environment for their children.

Before making such a decision, it is important to do your research and consult with professionals to ensure that your children receive a quality education and have access to socialization opportunities.
