Milo Yiannopoulos, a controversial figure in media and politics, rose to fame through his unapologetic and polarizing views.
by Jason Wilson
Milo’s journey began in the UK, where he worked as a technology journalist before transitioning to politics.
He gained notoriety in the US as an editor at Breitbart News, a conservative news outlet known for its divisive and inflammatory content.
“When you see this craziness, the social justice warrior stuff, you see a bunch of really unhappy people. They are angry, they are bitter, they are resentful, and they want to punish people for their own unhappiness.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
Milo quickly became a lightning rod for controversy due to his outspoken views on topics such as feminism, Islam, and free speech.
He was banned from social media platforms and faced protests and backlash from various communities for his comments, which some viewed as discriminatory and hateful.

Despite the controversies surrounding him, Milo has cultivated a loyal following of supporters who see him as a champion of free speech and a defender of conservative values.
“It’s become this sort of religion of intersectionality where you’re not allowed to have an opinion unless it’s been blessed by the intersectional gods.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
His rise to fame is a testament to the power of social media and the polarized political climate in which we live.
Milo’s appearance on the podcast may challenge the preconceptions and beliefs about him.
While some may see him as a provocateur and a divisive figure, others may view him as a free speech advocate and a voice for the underrepresented.
The conversation between Joe and Milo promises to be engaging and thought-provoking, and may challenge listeners to question their own beliefs and biases.
Free Speech and Political Correctness

In the controversial world of politics, few issues are as polarizing as free speech and political correctness.
Milo, a well-known figure in the conservative movement, has made a name for himself as a vocal opponent of political correctness.
“It’s not enough for them to disagree with you, they have to ruin you. They have to destroy your reputation, they have to call you a racist or a bigot or a homophobe.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
On the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Episode #702, Milo Yiannopoulos and Joe Rogan delved into this debate, particularly as it pertains to college campuses.

During the conversation, Milo argued that the rise of PC culture is having a chilling effect on free speech, particularly on college campuses.
“There are certainly things that you should be able to say on a college campus that you can’t say at the moment.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
He argued that many college students are afraid to express their true opinions on controversial issues for fear of being labeled as bigots or racists.
“There’s this view on the left that people are just one or two steps away from turning into Hitler, that the slightest deviation from the orthodoxy is going to lead to this nightmare scenario.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
Joe, for his part, agreed with many of Milo’s arguments and expressed his own concerns about the suppression of free speech on college campuses.
“This whole thing that’s happening in colleges right now where people are being disinvited from speaking, this is crazy. This is what universities are for, to have debates and to hear from different perspectives.” – Joe Rogan
The conversation between Joe and Milo on free speech and political correctness is likely to challenge the beliefs and preconceptions of many listeners.
“There are people that say things that are really not good things to say, but that’s what free speech means.” – Joe Rogan
For some, the idea that political correctness can have a chilling effect on free speech may be a new concept, and Milo’s arguments may force them to re-evaluate their views on the issue.
For others, the conversation may serve as validation of their own beliefs that political correctness has gone too far and is having a negative impact on free speech.

Regardless of one’s position on the issue, the conversation between Joe and Milo is sure to inspire further debate and discussion on this important topic.
And the concern is not unfounded.
In recent years, there have been numerous incidents of colleges and universities canceling speaking events or disinviting controversial speakers due to pressure from students and faculty.
For example, in 2017, Berkeley canceled an appearance by conservative commentator Ann Coulter due to concerns about potential violence.
In addition to these cancellations, there have been cases of students being punished for expressing controversial opinions.
In 2018, a student at the University of Central Florida was suspended for making a social media post in support of the NRA, and in 2019, a student at Georgia Southern University was investigated by campus police for displaying a Trump flag in his dorm room window.
As Milo and Joe discussed on the podcast, it is important to have open and honest discussions about controversial topics, even if they make people uncomfortable or challenge their beliefs.
This is how we learn and grow as individuals and as a society.

Joe and Milo also delved into the topic of feminism and gender politics.
Milo, known for his provocative views, argued that modern feminism has gone too far and is doing more harm than good.
“It’s obviously not all feminists, but there is a small, lunatic core of feminists who hate men, who absolutely despise them, who want to dismantle everything that’s good in the world, including families, and we see them now attacking free speech on campuses, we see them trying to dismantle democracy.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
He suggested that feminists are focused on trivial issues such as manspreading and microaggressions, while ignoring more pressing issues such as female genital mutilation and honor killings in other parts of the world.
“I think the whole ‘gender pay gap’ thing is nonsense…women are not oppressed in the West.” – Milo Yiannopoulos
Joe challenged some of Milo’s views, but also expressed his own concerns about the direction of modern feminism.
“I think the idea that women are not oppressed in the West is just not accurate. I think there are a lot of ways in which women are still disadvantaged.” – Joe Rogan
They both agreed that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, but disagreed on the methods and priorities of modern feminists.
“Don’t you think that there are women who are just as talented and just as skilled as men, and they should have the opportunity to do whatever they want…I’m not saying that every woman can do every job, but I’m saying that there are women who are capable of doing any job.” – Joe Rogan
As with the other topics discussed in this episode, the conversation about feminism and gender politics may be difficult for some listeners, but it is important to engage with differing opinions in order to better understand the complexities of these issues and your own position on the matter.

It will give them an opportunity to question whether some aspects of modern feminism are actually helping or hurting the cause.
This conversation may challenge the beliefs and preconceptions of many listeners, particularly those who identify as feminists or supporters of gender equality.
“I think people have to be allowed to be wrong. We have to let them be wrong, we have to let them say the wrong things, because that’s the only way we can figure out what’s right.” – Joe Rogan
It is through honest and respectful dialogue that we can move towards a more equitable and just society.

As a black man, listening to the Joe Rogan Experience: Episode #702 – Milo Yiannopoulos was an interesting experience.
Some of Milo’s comments on feminism and gender politics were concerning to hear.
I believe in gender equality and the importance of empowering women, so Milo’s dismissal of these ideas were difficult for me to reconcile with my own beliefs.
Milo’s comments on race were unfortunate, particularly his claim that Black Lives Matter is a “supremacist” movement.
Ultimately, I felt that the entire conversation ignored the actual struggles of black people in America.
Joe’s reaction to some of Milo’s more extreme views are reassuring, as he challenged Milo’s statements and expressed his own disagreements.
While this episode was challenging for me to listen to, I believe it is important to engage with ideas and opinions that challenge our own beliefs.
