A former student at Terryville Road Elementary School in Port Jefferson Station on Long Island has accused a teacher, Debra Rosenquist, of calling their entire class “sexist little children” during a school board meeting on Monday.
The student, who was not identified, claimed Rosenquist made the remark because the boys and girls in the class were only hanging out with classmates of the same gender.

The student, who was in Rosenquist’s fifth-grade class, added that the incident had made him feel personally offended, particularly as his best friend in the class was a girl.
“She yelled at the whole class that we were all little sexist children,” the student said as he addressed the Comsewogue School District board.
“I was offended personally because my best friend in the class was a girl.
It was like ‘Why would she do that to me, I was just a child.’ That affected me and made me very upset,” he continued.

“I’m not saying certain things shouldn’t be taught at certain ages, but when we’re dealing with kids in the ages of single digits, we shouldn’t be going into these places,” Tom said, referring to classes about gender or sexuality.
Tom, who is also a special education teacher, said that he would never push his beliefs on students and that teachers should not be promoting a pro-LGBTQ agenda in elementary schools.
A small protest was held outside the meeting by Moms for Liberty, who claim that the student at the center of the lawsuit was groomed, and the LGBT Network, who argue that Rosenquist did everything she was supposed to do to support the child.
